In response to Re: cutting through joists
: I have a historic home (1838) and am remodeling an bigupstairs bathroom. I need to get drain and waterlines through app. 8-9 floor joists. Is there a rule of thumb to the size and area located on the joist these holes should be? I have a clawfoot tub in this room as well and do not want to sacrifice floor integrity.

I have recently completed a similar project on an 1890 vict bath. Instead of drilling through the joists, which are always running the wrong way, I ran the line over and dropped it down between the wall to the basement, then over to the main....Good luck...
