Is it a 'claw-foot' (free-standing) one? Or is it built into a tub area. That is a small bathroom. What is the problem with the tub? I had a house circa 1920 that had a large cast iron tub that was much larger (and comfortable) than anything new. Perhaps just having the porcelean refinished would do the job and save you a lot of headaches.
