1939 Kohler Toilet

I have a Kohler (K4540) toilet that was installed on 11/15/39...yes 1939!! Throughout the years, I have had the tanks internal parts replaced by many plumbers. Most of the repairmen did not use brand name Kohler replacement parts, just the regular warehouse parts that plumbers normally use. During the past 10 years, I have probably spent $600 replacing parts and am at the end of my tether. I am currently hand flushing the toilet because the parts are rusted and weak and won't operate without assistance. I contacted Kohler and they said I could order Kohler brand parts at a cost of $252., but there is no GUARANTEE that the new parts will work and although the parts would be exchageable, they would not be refundable. I could spend an additional $250 and still have an attractive, but non functional toilet. Should I buy the brand name parts replacement or discard the entire (very attractive antique) toilet?
