My 5 year old house in suburban Chicago has developed a strange problem - the water pipes hum. The noise propogates throughout the entire house along the water pipes (copper). The pitch of the hum is about one octave below middle C. I can stop the noise by shutting the water supply to the hot water tank and releasing the pressure with the overflow valve. The weather has been extremely cold (about 10F). Do you have any suggestions for solving this problem?
