What kind of water heater is it? Gas, or electric? In any case, I would hate to be the one who would have to service or replace a heater installed this way. What is the reason for wanting this installation? : can I install a water heater through a floor? ie the bottom 1/2 resting in a crawl space and the top 1/2 poking through the floor above? Will a home inspector ding us for this? Does it violate any national code? Thx!
