In those the flapper was probably leaking which would keep water in the bowl. : thanks for the putting my mind at ease. at other homes have been gone on vacation etc. and never had that before. : : : It is not "okay", but it would still be evaporation if the bowl is not used for that long a period of time. You have to flush it more often.
