RE: Offset closet flange

I roughed the pipe at 12 plus but then shimmed out the wall, leaving 11 3/4. Also, I may add 1/2 inch wainscot which would leave 11 1/4. I purchased an offest flance but when placed it in the space its way to high, can I cut it down or should I try and find a different offset flange to fit my application, or should I remove flooring enough to cut the pipe slip on a coupling and move the pipe elbow forward?
