The city of Virginia Beach requires new PEX plumbing installations to be pressure tested to 200 psi, whereas copper only requires a normal working pressure test. I would like to use PEX, but I am not sure how to test it at 200 psi. A local plumbing supply said they have a test kit with gauge and fittings for approximately $30. But, a hydrostatic pump necessary to achieve 200 psi cost $200 - $300. Rentals are about $60 - 70 per day. I was thinking about using one of those cheap 12V car compressors that advertise 300 psi outputs. Any reason why this would not work? Thanks.
