Normally you will need MAPP gas and a torch with a large burner to get the 3" hot enough, and keep it hot, all around it to permit the joint being separated. However if it is a short DWV joint, propane may work. : Before I attempt this, could someone tell me if it is likely that I would be able to separate a 3" copper drain pipe from a 3" copper elbow with a propane torch?
