Today I just ripped out the wet bed, wire mesh and tile from my early 1970's bathroom (quite an exhausting job). The thickness of the material removed is 1.25 inches. I am thinking ahead, when I put in the new concrete backer board and then the thin set and tiles, my finished height will be somewhat less that the elevation of the toilet flange.
My question is should I put in a double thickness of concrete backer board or should cut and put in a new toilet flange.
If the answer is to replace the toilet flange, how difficult of a job is it and how is it done?
Thanks in advance
