: Over the last month, we have heard a loud vibrating noise in separate parts of our 18 year old townhouse. There is no apparent cause, we were not running water at all (no dishwasher, no bath or toilette. Can anyone suggest where we should start looking for a cause to this? It has happened atleast 3 or 4 times over the past month. Now I am alittle concerned because one of our neighbors pipes just burst. Any suggestions?

If you have a "pressure reducer" it may need repair or replacing. Sometimes, move the adjustment up and down dislodges whatever is causing problems with the diaphrm.
Then again, it could be a leaking flapper on a toilet, that is causing the fill valve to refill. The fill valve could be making the noise.
