Oak is oak. It doesn't matter if it is a piece of furniture, a floor, or a toilet seat. Of course there are different finishes, but regular household cleaners shouldn't effect the finish. If the finish is looking a bit shabby, clean it well, then get a can of lacquer from a paint store. Spray two or three coats of lacquer on and your seat will be like new. If you get a run or sag, just respray it. Lacquer heals itself as it just liquifies the previous layer. Lots of furniture is finished with lacquer. It's not really very economical to do lots of large pieces with a spray can, but for a few small ones, it's the only way.
