: My toilet sounds like it is flushing, but the bowl just fills with water (more the longer you hold the handle down) and then slowly the water level goes down, but the contents are not completely flushed. Is there something I can do to fix this without calling for professional help? I'm house sitting for my boyfriend who is away at a funeral for a few days and would like to have it fixed for him before he gets home...

Most of the time, a plunger will fix this. If you don't have a plunger handy, you can try pouring in a bucket of water. Sometimes that will "jump-start" things.
