In response to Re: SUMP PUMP ODORS
: I HAD A NEW SUBMERSIBLE SUMP PUMP INSTALLED IN MAY,2002. SINCE THEN MY BASEMENT HAS HAD A SULFUR SMELL. CAN YOU THINK OF ANY REASONS FOR THIS? I HAD A CITY INSPECTOR LOOK AT IT AND SAID THE NEW PUMP WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. ONE PLUMBER TOLD ME IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT TREE ROOTS ARE CLOGGING A LINE. ANY OTHER POSSIBLE THINGS THAT MIGHT CAUSE THIS UNPLEASANT SMEELL? I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO SELL MY HOUSE AND THIS IS A GREAT CONCERN. THANK YOU.

OK It depends on what kind of sump pump you had installed if it is a open pit system it was NOT vented to the outside and this is what is causing the smell. If it is a package system make sure that it is vented to the outside.
