: : my kitchen sink is having an awful sewer gas smell coming out of it. I poured 3 buckets of hot water and bleach downt the basment drain last week. what else can i do? ps i live in an old house if that matters.

: It sounds like your vent may be plugged causing your sink to siphon out the trap.Without water in the trap the sewer gas is free to come out. One thing to try is to slowly run water in the drain 3 to 4 cup fulls should do it.If the smell goes away then your trap is definitely being siphoned indicating a venting problem
