|In response to Re: how hard is it to connect a direct vent fireplace....|
: We would like to build our own cabinet box and mantle to put a gas direct vent fireplace insert inside.Do you think this is possible? We thought this would be a cheaper way then having it installed by our builder. How do you connect the insert?Do you need someone professional to connect the gas(my father in law has worked with gas and has connected gas stoves)
: Do you know of any blue prints for a nice cabinet and mantle we can build for the insert?
It's very possible. You will need to verify code on the vent. When I did mine, I had an existing fireplace and just ran the vent up the flue and used a cap on top. The gas connects just the same as any gas appliance, so your father-in-law should have no problem with that.
