: I'm installing a new acrylic bathtub - American Standard recess type. I'm installing on a subfloor on the second floor. Can I just attach the tub to stud supports or do I ned to lay mortar on the floor?

It depends on the model of tub. It should come with instructions. The American Standard site should have pdf files that list their method. If the tub is steel, cast, or americast, than using a wood "stringer along the back and attaching at the nailing flange is fine. Some acrylic tubs do need support on the bottom for the best long term care, however some come with their own support so it's not a blanket statement for all. Terry
