Remove Air Gap??

Hi, I am trying to figure out the best way to install a R/O faucet. Unfortunately, I have a cast iron sink with the only available hole being used by the Dishwasher's Air Gap. I have been advised not to attempt to drill through the sink, so I'm wondering if I can safetly relocate/remove the air gap so I can mount the R/O faucet there?
