less water, less movement?

evidently lo-flush toilets are becoming successful but what about the piping to destination-4" pipe was designed to hold enough water in it's 'trough' to carry the solids, but less water volume must be presenting problems in these areas. are we going to smaller diameter pipe or smoother more slippery lined pipe? have we changed the degree of slope? whats a homeowner's new septic system supposed to look like?
