: I've removed my old tub and replacing it with a standard steel tub. My question is how is it exactly secured. I was told to secure a 2x4 on the far wall in order to brace the tub and then use a level across both the short and long sides for final leveling. Then what...where and how is the tub secured in this position?

After the tub is set in place, roofing nails over the flange will hold it in place.
If the floor is not level, you may need some cedar shims to keep it from rocking.
The flooring installed up to the tub will make it more secure too.
