update on toilet problem

Ok, the plumber was here again last night. He took the toilet off and snaked the line AGAIN (2nd time in 10 days). After two hours he couldn't clear it and there was still standing water in the toilet drain. He used 75' of line and tried 3 times. We checked to make sure the snake wasn't coming through the clean out that shows up at the roof (this is an older house, built in 1939). The toilet drain drops into the main sewer drain from the house all by itself, supposedly. The weird thing is that I could here the snake in the drain pipes under the house going from the sink and tub, which it shouldn't have been in (if the toilet drain is seperate). The plumber was at a loss and I'm still without a functioning toilet. It will drain, but very slowly over the course of an hour. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
