: My toilet is too close to the vanity on the right. I would like to move it over approx. 3" towards the wall. Is this possible? If so, what would be involved?

Sure Maureen, it is possible to move the toilet. Be sure you use a LICENSED plumber though to ensure straight cuts and secure pipe fittings and support hangers. Remove the toilet from the floor and remove the finished floor from the wall on the left to the vanity on the right.Remove the subflooring at the floor joists to an area approx nine square feet and examine the soil stack and closet bend and tub/shower drain configuration as it exists now. Note where the existing floor joist lies that may interfere with the new closet bend location. Look to ensure that ample space is available to access the existing soil line to shorten it, as well as to access the existing soil line to extend it on the lengthened end. Ensure the weight of the lengthened run can be adequately supported by the floor joists which may also bear the weight of the tub/shower. Depending upon the pipe type, different areas for access may be required. When space is tight it will make all the difference in the world if you use a LICENSED plumber or a hackemup. The careless person will cut into the piping with a sawzall at an untrue angle, and will create a leak when it comes time to reconnect everything and install hangers, especially if plastic ABS pipe is used with rubber fernco couplings.
