I can chime in on this. I just bought a Centex house in Everett and they run the vent straight up into the attic, it elbows toward an exterior wall and it was just dumping the dryer heat into the attic. I attached the pipe to the louvered vent but still have to wrap the pipe.
Dramatic temperature changes from a hot or warm dryer to a cold attic can cause condensation. This condensation collects and then runs back down the pipe to the dryer. Not a pleasant configuration.
: Bad idea. The dryer air is very moist and you will pump that into you attic. You just about have to vent to the outside.
