I assume the main water supply line comes through the softner, probably making sort of a U or L to go on the the house. What you have to do is turn the water off, drain the lines, cut the intake and outfeed lines so the softner is disconnected. Then the space where the unit came out has to be joined together. Exactly how that would work depends on the configuration of you pipes, but it isn't difficult for anyone who can sweat solder. The whole job shouldn't take more than 30 minutes so so... assuming (risky to "assume" anything) there were no weird things done when the softner was installed.
