polybutylene piping

I am purchasing a home in Rock Hill SC & 3 weeks from closing the inspector tells me it has polybutylene piping. The home was built in 1995 & with all the bad press, I cannot understand why the custom builder would have continued to use this towards the end. The home is built solid, but this one issue is making me sick. The home is 2 stories & has a crawl space with approximately 2400 sq feet. What should I expect to pay to replace this? I have asked the seller to split the cost even though I feel the selling price is more then fair. I am buying from a relocation company so I don't have any original info from the homeowners that lived there, other then their disclosure statement--but we know how that goes. Thanks for any help.
