Usually it is caused by the installation of a steel pipe or fitting at or near the tub valve. This steel item has started rusting and when water is static for a time, it picks up the rusty color.

: Most of the time the water in our bathtub runs clean but occasionally the water comes out discolored. It has a yellowish tint to it. This will happen for a few days in a row and then it seems to run clean again. We run the water in the tub at least 4 times everyday. All the other fixtures in the bathroom and the rest of the house seem to be ok. What is the cause of this and how can it be fixed? Thanks.
