Relocating PTrap

Hello, I'm going to have to put in a new Ptrap as the existing one (for the bathtub being replaced) doesn't line up with the new shower drainage hole. Q: Can I leave the existing Ptrap in place and add a new one (effectively having 2 in series) or do I have to remove the existing one, add an extention, then add the new one under the new shower drainage hole?
