pressure relief on old boiler

I rent an old house as an office and it has a 50 +-year old gas fired hot water boiler . I asked the owner's plumber recently if it had a pressure relief valve and he said yes it was next to the fast fill valve. I convinced him to change both, they were very old. Should there be a relief valve right on the boiler? The existing (now new)relief valve is on the 1/2" feed line about 4' from the boiler.
