They recommend them on fast closing valves.
Dishwasher, clothes washer, icemaker.

If I have a deck tub, I use them there too.
Current code requires shock arrestors, not air chambers. If an air chamber is used, there must be a means of draining it. That being the case, the shock arrestor becomes the way to go. Terry
