You don't set it "in" cement. On cement and some like to put sand under the base to add stability. The drain must be roughed in before you set the shower stall. Exactly where is determined by the size shower stall. Use 2" pipe and there must be a pee trap installed under the floor surface. Leave about a foot or so above the floor level. You trim it to size after the shower is set in place. The drain is gasketed and just slips over the pipe. It is held to the base of the shower stall by a large nut the thread into the lower part of the unit. Any plumbing shop will have them and can better explain the process.
