Buying and using the tool is a much better alternative than using a pair of pliers and screwddriver. I have utilized the "plier/screwdriver" method a few times too many and came out on the losing end because I snapped the trap grid out three out of five times. I ended up using a plumbing hack saw to cut out all three of the broken traps and about an hour's worth of time for each to fix the problem. Using the tool ($11.95) is a much better option.
