: I am replacing the entire drain under a 2nd floor shower stall. The existing one products a great deal of noise in the shower stall coming out of the shower drain. The noise can be eliminated by taping about 1/2 of the drain opening closed.

: How can I install the new plumbing to correct this problem?

If there is a vented p-trap on the shower drain, it should be fairly quiet. Does it have one?
