I have a sump pump discharge with a checkvalve about three feet above the pump. The 1-1/2" discharge line with a 20' run has an air gap at the end where the water is dumnped into a 3"x6' vertical line going to a leech field perimeter drain. Assuming that the purpose of the checkvalve is to prevent backflow and that the possibility of back flow is almost zero, do I need to have a checkvalve? I would like to eliminate the checkvalve to reduce the hammer I am getting when the pump stops and to drain back the water that is being trapped in the negative slope the plumber built in.
