mysterious shrinking water spots

My new home has three Toto 1.6 toilets. On the toilet that seldom gets used, I noticed water spot seems to shrink (e.g., the water level in the bowl slowly drops). Although I don't hear any water running or leaking, the drop is way too much -- sometimes over 1/2" in a few days -- to be evaporation. If I go out of town for a few days, the same thing happens on the other toilets. Any ideas what could be causing this? BTW: these toilets are among the best 1.6 gal models I've ever used.
