Since that connection is probably directly below the brass drain fitting, be certain that the water you see is not coming from around the connection at the sink or where the tailpiece is screwed into the drain fitting.

: Put in a new pedestal sink and connected the 1.25" brass drain in the new fawcett to the white plastic drain kit using the 1.25" to 1.5" adapter wedge washer that came with the plastic drain kit. Could not get this washer to seal so replaced it with a rubber flex drain plus hose clamps connector which still leaks a little at the 1.25" brass drain.
: There may be better choices, but I used the white plastic drain kit because some drain has to be visible (old house prevents moving drain pipe). And I used 1.5" to keep the drain fast.
