: Depending on how the pipe comes from the wall it may or may not have a trap on it. You have to connect to a trapped connection, even if you have to install the trap, with the air gap I mentioned previously : : I just installed a new water softener. The garage was set up with a loop for the water lines and below this loop is a capped pvc pipe sticking out of the wall about 2 inches. Can I drill a hole in the top of this to insert the drain for the softener? There are no floor drains and the washer is too far away. Thanks. Thank you very much.
