: We have moved into a 30 year old home. In the laundry room there is what a few plumbers have referred to as a "pee hole". Basically it is a drain in the floor. After moving in we notice small black flies coming from this hole. Also it had a bad smell. Upon taking off the lid I noticed more flies and what seemed like a community of worm like things swimming in the water that was there. When I have mentioned this to other people they say that I have to drain it out once in a while. Is there a permanent remedy to this problem???

They are called drain flies and are harmless but still a nuisance, It was suggested that I pour boiling water in large quantities down the hole followed with a large quantity of bleach water mix, that should cut down on the little buggers, I also used the foamer stuff which I think did a lotta damage...
