Sporadic hot water

I have a propane water heater that is sporadic with how hot the water is. In the morning, 50% of the time the water is luke-warm. It seems to kick on the heater, as 20 minutes after taking a shower it's back to normal. It seems to be doing this more often after the propane tank went dry and was re-filled (pilot went out during this). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... luke-warm water isn't a fun way to start the day. Thanks!
