|In response to Possible leaky flapper.|
Ah the mystery of the self-flushing toilet, kinda scary isn't it ? I had this problem and found it to be caused by an older (leaky) flapper. The flapper is the flapper in the bottom of your tank. It's the thing that keeps water in the tank until you flush (when it raises up). If that flapper leaks a tiny bit then the water level in the tank will gradually drop until (voila) the toilet flushes. Replacing the flapper is usually a simple and inexpensive fix. Have fun !
