: I have a 50+ year old house. I'm fixing a rusted drain pipe for a wet bar in my basement. I want to use plastic to connect to a lead pipe that leads to the main drain. Is there anything special I should know about connecting the plastic pipe to the lead pipe? Not sure of your details or circumstances, but I was able to use a needle nose pliers to grab a piece of the rusted out drain pipe and pull it out of the lead pipe while simultaneously and sparingly applying a small amount of heat with a torch. Then simply inserted a similar size plastic pipe fitting and put a bead of silicon sealant around the joint of the lead pipe and the plastic. It's held for over 5 years with no problem.
