: I have moved from Dublin, Ireland to Napa, Ca. I used to work with a plumber in Dublin but I am a novice in the art of American plumbing. The Tub faucet in my house is leaking. How do I turn off the Hot and Cold water? I know this is a most basic question but I would appreciate some guidance. The tub faucet has a pull up knob to operate the shower; the water is turned on by a single lever. I have hex keys etc but I need to know what to do when I remove the turn on/off lever and the other fittings. First the easiest thing to do is turn off the water to the entire house.Without seeing it thats the best advice I can give you.Next most single handle faucets have an integral cartridge that can be pulled straight out when the trim is removed.Take it out ,take it to plumbing supply house and match it up and put it back together.Thats as good as it can get when I cant see the valve.Good luck Mike
