He is correct. The difference is that a 9 or 12 year heater just has an extra anode rod, and the extra cost is like the premium on an insurance policy to cover the manufacturer in case the heater does fail. Additionally, there is little difference in water heaters these days.
: I'min the market for a new 40 or 50 gallon gas water heater. I'd like to hear recommendations on various brands. In addition, a plumber friend has told me there is no difference in the quality of a six versus 10 year bradford white heater. They are both made on the same production line. What do you think?
