It would be almost impossible for the pipe to create enough rust to close itself off and still have a pipe left. What can happen is that the rust may flake off and fall to the bottom of the pipe where it turns and accumulate there to restrict the flow.
: I have an old house with a large cast iron drain pipe in the upstairs bathroom which seems to be severely rusted to the point that water barely passes. Is this possible, and is there an inexpensive alternative to replacing the pipes?
