Take the spout off and see if the shower still drips. If it doesn't then the problem is that the diverter spout is not allowing enough water to pass through and the excess is being forced up the shower riser and out the shower head.

: Our problem is water leaking from the shower head even when the shower diverter button is fully down. I found an exact replacement for the diverter spout (common Danco model), but the problem remains! Could the problem be caused by a corroded pipe between the tub spout and shower head? My wife tells me the shower-head pressure seems fine, but it is a 50yr-old house with steel plumbing.
