We just bought a 1934 home. My wife and I gutted the 2nd floor bathroom to install new flooring and wallboard and discovered that the pipes are a mess (for a variety of reasons). One thing that has me very alarmed is that the fixtures are not vented. The bath and sink tie into the same horizontal which then ties into the 3" cast iron connecting the toilet to the stack. But that's it. There is no vertical venting. The tub is an old claw foot and there are no walls located at the plumbing side of it. The toilet is right next to the stack, and the sink is about 2.5 -3 feet away from the stack. Is this normal? Is there no need for venting since the fixtures are upstairs and close to the stack? Should I have someone come in to vent the fixtures, and if so, which ones? The wall behind the sink and toilet is opened up right now. Thanks in advance for any advice.
