You are probably referring to the American Standard Vent-Away toilets. They were expensive and the venting operation was not automatic, in that you had to manually start the process after flushing the toilet, and it would run, (and use water), until you stopped it or flushed the toilet the next time.
: I heard there is a toliet vent tnat goes in the back of the toliet and sucks the smell away through the pvc vent already installed for the toliet. i have a half bath in the middle of my house and do not want to put a fan in the upper wall and vent it all the way to the outside.
