Pump won't hold pressure...

I have an older submersible pump in my well. I replaced the metal pressure tank with a new 30 gallon bladder-type tank, and a 30-50 PSI switch.

It will not attain more than 40 PSI. I adjusted the switch to allow the pump to cut off at that point, but the pressure immediately starts dropping, and the pump soon cycles on again, raising the pressure, and on and on.

Can I service the pump myself? I've basically built the house, and am quite handy, but I've never worked with wells or pumps... Thanks in advance!
