Cast Iron Tub Which Fills From the Drain UP

HI, We recently purchased a 100+ year old cast iron tub which sits on a pedestal (skirt) thingy. The unique thing about this tub is that it fills from the drain up, not through a faucet. We would like to make this tub into a tub/shower combination and it came with solid brass plumbing ... How can we convert this to a shower combo. without having to waste the beautiful solid brass fittings? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)
