septic gas

I am building a patio and have repeatedly (daily)noticed septic gas. We just finished some renovation which included some bathroom work. My septic tank was recently pumped I was told it was working well. There are no indications of problems at the surface i.e. my lawn. I have owned a number of homes and never had this problem. There is a hill behind my house but the land falls away to the front. Is positive pressure being created in my system somehow? What could it be?
