Sand accumulating in pressure tank

I have a submersible pump in my well which supplies my house and an apartment in my barn/shop. I have a whole house filter in the house but not in the apartment. I had to replace the tank cross on the apartment pressure tank and notice quite a buildup of coarse sand in the inlet/outlet pipe. I knew sand was coming out of the well since seeing it settle in the toilet tank of the apartment. I am going to install a whole house filter on the supply to the apartment plumbing at the point before the pressure tank. I believe my submersible pump is at 48 feet. Would raising the pump a few feet help alleviate the draw of sand into the plumbing system? Any comments would be welcome. Thanks.
